Japan is known for its social harmony. But that harmony comes at a price. Standing out for any reason can make you a target, especially in schools where bullying is at an all time high. And for minorities, standing out is anything but a choice.

We expected to start a conversation about bullying and discrimination in Japan.
What we got was a debate so fiery, it made headlines around the globe.

Case study and cultural context

To inspire more youth to stand up and shape the future they want to see, we enlisted the help of Naomi Osaka, someone’s who’s been instrumental in speaking up for change, both in and outside Japan.

Through a partnership with i-D magazine, we worked with Naomi to highlight and interview “Future Chasers,” who are reshaping Japan through sports, culture and more.
